LITERACY ABOUND!

 

Reading & writing is awesome! Do it every day for at least 15 minutes. Check this page often for updated book lists and cool resources!



Literacy involves so many aspects of language. While this can make reading and writing challenging at times, it also provides myriad opportunities to learn and grow!  While we will not be learning to read or write - per se - at this level, we will certainly do plenty of both!

 

Texts are selected based on various aspects. Among these, may be interests, fluency, vocabulary knowledge, and personal academic goals, setting each reader on the best course for reading-growth and enjoyment!

As continuous data is collected, the class will be split into reading groups. This means all the readers in the group are focused on similar goals and can bring their own strengths to share, enabling us to individualize instruction and have more meaningful small-group interactions! Part of our reading work includes conversations, projects, creative responses, and teamwork!

We will accompany reading with writing. Focusing on the 6+1 Traits, we also aim to improve and increase our English vocabulary, organization of ideas, and even apply research skills to our work. Through collaboration and utilizing the writing process, we should notice drastic improvements in our writing.
